«The Great Turning : from Empire to Earth Community»

Il existe très peu de revues qui nous informent de l’existence de réalités alternatives au modèle mondial de développement capitaliste que nos élites nous proposent actuellement.

La revue Yes! A Journal of Positive Futures remplit ce rôle depuis environ 10 ans.

Dans son dernier numéro, elle nous offre un article The Great Turning - From Empire to Earth Community qui propose aux Américains un tournant historique : quitter la voie du développement impérialiste pour celle d’une communauté d’humains, partenaires dans le développement et respectueux de la planète Terre. Beau projet mais qui peut sembler inatteignable, surtout aux Etats-Unis ! Voici ce qu’en dit l’auteur, David Korten :

«Changing the prevailing stories in the United States may be easier to accomplish than we might think. The apparent political divisions notwithstanding, U.S. polling data reveal a startling degree of consensus on key issues. Eighty-three percent of Americans believe that as a society the United States is focused on the wrong priorities. Supermajorities want to see greater priority given to children, family, community, and a healthy environment. Americans also want a world that puts people ahead of profits, spiritual values ahead of financial values, and international cooperation ahead of international domination. These Earth Community values are in fact shared by both conservatives and liberals. » (Korten, 2006)

Dans le même numéro, la Suède annonce un plan pour être le premier pays à fonctionner «sans pétrole» : Sweden Vows to Go Oil Free in 15 Years. Les énergies fossiles seront remplacées par des énergies renouvelables telles les biocombustibles, l’énergie du vent et de la mer.
